There was low SERP volatility in the lead-up to the update, but it surged during critical periods, especially on November 25 and December 4, with more significant fluctuations observed in the US than in the UK.

Shortly after the core update in November, another one was announced just 8 days later, marking the fourth core update of 2024.


The December core update launched on December 12 and wrapped up on December 18. Its rollout was swift and caught many off guard, especially since it followed closely on the heels of the previous update. Google addressed this on X, explaining:

“If you’re wondering why there’s a core update this month after one last month, we have different core systems we’re always improving.”


Although it was the fastest officially documented core update, reports indicated it was more volatile than the November 2024 update.
